So you finally got your new Starmobile Astra / Crystal, but can you download any app you want? What about custom themes? Do you ever feel like altering or replacing system applications and settings on your new phone? Luckily, Rolen Perez of Starmobile Crystal Facebook group found a way on how to root your phone. ROOTING VOIDS YOUR PHONE’S WARRANTY. ROOT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Step 1: Download PdaNet (v4.01 - 4.6MB) and Root with Restore by Bin4ry ( v15.7z - 1.94MB).

Step 2: Install PdaNet on your computer (it will automatically install the drivers for your phone) and when asked on which phone are you using, choose “Other brands”
Note: Don’t connect your phone on your computer yet!

Step 3: Before connecting your phone to your computer please do these things:

• Go to Settings > Developer Options > Check USB Debugging
• Go to Settings > Security > Check Install From Unknown Sources.

Step 4: Connect your phone to computer. If your computer is connected to the internet, Windows 7 will automatically install drivers for you when you connect your phone.

Step 5: Find the PdaNet icon in your phone menu and tap it.

Step 6: Then choose USB Tether

Step 7: Check your PdaNet at your computer if it's connected to internet.

Step 8: Go to your PdaNet on your phone, Then turn off the PdaNet.

Step 9: Create a folder on your computer and unzip the zip file Root with Restore from Bin4ry.

Step 10: Double check your notifications on your phone for USB Connected, USB Debugging and USB Storage .

Step 11: Go to your created folder with the extracted Root with Restore.

Step 12: Then RUN/START the Runme.bat file

Step 13: The command prompt will appear and it will start the rooting process script, Press "1" and hit ENTER. (Device Type - NORMAL).

Step 14: Wait a while, then look at your phone and it should ask you to "Full Restore", tap the "Restore my data" and it will REBOOT.

Step 15: Then wait for your phone to turn on.

Step 16: After booting you will see a message "Android is Upgrading"

Step 17: Check on your phone menu if "SuperSU" icon is there.

SIMPLE GUIDE for ROOTING STAR MOBILE BRIGHT

First and Foremost: I just laid out this guide based on what i did on rooting my phone. I may not held responsible for any damage done in your phone while doing this tutorial. Do it in your own risk!

REQUIREMENTS:
1. Android phone (malamang..lol)
2. Laptop/pc
3. PDA net (for android driver)-click here for the link
4. UNlock root ( download online installer from attachment)
5. Root CHecker ( installed in your android phones) -for root checking

Note: you must have online connection for this to work

PROCEDURE:

1. Download and install first root checker from the market or you can download apk from the net and installed it in your phone.

2. Download PDA net but dont install first.

3. Connect phone to PC/laptop, enable debugging in ur phone. (Dont activate data USB data transfer).

4. Install PDAnet. Just go through the installation. We just need the driver, we can uninstall it later.

5. DIsconnect your phone from the laptop.

6. Download UnlockROOT.

7. Connect your phone (debug mode enabled).

8. Install Unlock root. You need internet connection here because it will scan for your phone necessary drivers/etc.

9. Start Unlockroot (run as ADmin), wait for the program to recognize your device. It will scan online. Then just press Root button. Wait until it finishes the process. It will reboot your phone.

10. After reboot. Disconnect from PC. Reboot agin your phone.

11. In your phone run rootchecker to check if root is succesful. Then install SUperuser if it is not installed.. I cant remember if Unlockroot automatically install SUperuser. Run SuperUSer, it must properly initialize if your phone is rooted.

12. If the SuperUser said ur phone is not rooted, just repeat the process. But first you must UNroot your phone first using UNlock root before rooting it again.

13. When your phone is Finally rooted (SUperuser recognized it). Install YOu must install busybox. Download busybox installer fron the market. I reccommend Busybox installer by Stephen (Stericson). Ito lng kasi gumana sa akin na busybox installer yung iba nag eerror.


Install nyu rin yung Rom toolbox pro para ma maximize nyu yung rooted phone nyu. just use lucky patcher pra mging full...

StarMobile ASTRA Rooting and CWM Recovery

DISCLAIMER:
Do the following at your own risks. Steps are provided to help you Root and Install CWM Based Recovery to your Phone (Starmobile ASTRA) as a guide. Ultimately YOU are responsible for your own actions.

Personal Requirements:
1. You must HAVE prior knowledge of how to root Android phones, either you have rooted a previous phone or have helped/seen one being rooted.
2. PC running windows 7 and connected to the INTERNET. (I haven't tested this on Windows XP but you can try and give feedback, the internet connection is required for any DRIVER download which might be required)

ROOTING:
Software Requirements (Please download the following)
1. Root with Restore by Bin4ry
Steps:
1. Driver Installation: Install the correct drivers for your phone. (Do any of the following)
A. Search and Install MTK6577 driver / MEDIATEK VCOM USB Drivers
B. Install PDANet (it will automatically install the drivers for your phone)
C. Download and install SuperOneClick (it will automatically install the drivers for your phone)
D. If PC is connected to the internet, Windows 7 will automatically install drivers for you when you connect your phone.
2. Please ensure that USB DEBUGGING and INSTALL FROM UNKNOWN SOURCES are ON in your ASTRA. See SETTINGS. Connect your ASTRA to the PC using the provided USB cable.
3. Unzip the zip file Root with Restore from Bin4ry. Then RUN/START the Runme.bat file.
4. It will start the rooting process script, Choose 1 then ENTER (Device Type - NORMAL).
5. Wait a while, then look at your ASTRA and it should ask you to RESTORE, after which it will REBOOT.
6. The script will continue UNTIL you will see a message SUCCESSFUL.
7. Congratulations you have ROOTED your STARMOBILE ASTRA.

CWM-BASED RECOVERY:
1. Download Astra Recovery ZIP file, and UNZIP. Connect your phone to the PC and mount as USB drive.
2. Copy the mu7577.apk and recovery.img file to the root (or main folder or highest level folder) of your SDCARD.
3. Install the Mobileuncle Tools (mu7577.apk)
4. Run Mobileuncle Tools
5. Choose Recovery Update
6. Choose the recovery file in SDcard.
7. It will ask for root permission (GRANT it) the it will Flash the recovery image to your phone and reboot you to CMW recovery.
8. NOW YOU HAVE CMW Recovery for installing zip files/custom ROMs.
9. Use Volume up/down keys to navigate and Power button to choose/select. Be very careful, if you do not know what you are doing then do not select/change anything in recovery.
10. Choose Reboot System Now to exit recovery and reboot celphone.

How to root CHERRY MOBILE Titan.. CWM

To those who have rooted your Cherry Mobile Titan, here is the best way to flash CWM Custom Recovery...this way you can back-up your phone:

1. Download attached Scatter file (MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt)

UPDATE: Run SuperOneClick to install the USB driver for your phone. No need to do this if you already installed it before rooting your device.
5. Run Flash tool
6. Load scatter file
7. Click recovery checkbox and click the word recovery. This will ask you load the TWRP recovery.img. Just go to where you saved the file and open it.
8. Click download and immediately connect your phone via USB.
9. You should see a yellow progress bar at the bottom of the flash tool. Wait for it to go 100%. After that you will see a dialog box with a green circle. It means you have successfully flashed the custom recovery. ENJOY!

2. install, then follow instructions (Note: Don't Connect the phone to your PC yet). when asked to choose what type of phone, Choose Others.

3. when ask to connect the phone, you can now connect it to your PC (Note: be sure to enable first USB debugging at Settings-Developer Options). Wait for the installation to finish and you are now all set.

after completion of installation of pdanet.. time to root.

5. Unzip it then EXECUTE "RUNME.BAT". COMMAND prompt windows will appear...hit "1" then press ENTER. (1 is normal rooting)

6. just wait for the command to work for itself until it tells you to restore the phone. Check the phone and you will see "restore my data". Hit it and wait for it to restart. Check the command prompt until it tells you to press any key, do it so and wait for your phone to restart. VIOLA! Rooted!

How to Root Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0

Required equipment:
* Flame 2.0
* microSD card (CWM won't detect the internal phone storage)
* USB connector
* Windows 7 PC (or other Windows versions)
* Brain
* A little luck

Required files (link from guide): MediaFire Link
* SuperSU
* Modified ClockWorkMod (CWM) recovery image

I am on Windows 7, so some instructions might have to be modified accordingly by you if you are on a different Windows version.

1. Copy the UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip to your microSD card. Make sure the card is inside your Flame 2.0.

2. Install the Android SDK from developer.android.com on your PC. Navigate to the program folder (on my PC it's C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools) and copy the CWM-Flame2.img you downloaded. Then hold Shift+right click on your mouse on the Explorer window, and select "Open command window here" for a cmd window to come up.

3. Go to Settings > Developer options on your phone and make sure that USB debugging is checked.

4. Install required drivers by connecting your phone via USB and making sure it is in Media device/MTP mode (check your dropdown and make sure that this is selected). If you are having problems installing, or your phone is not detected, locate pcdrivers.zip in your phone and unzip it on your PC. Then manually install the driver corresponding to your operating system inside the adb_driver folder. You can check this by going into Device Manager and seeing an entry under "Android Phone" > "Android ADB Interface". I just went into more detail because I have installed maybe 20 Android phones on my PC and wanted to check if it was the Flame 2.0 that was being detected.

5. Turn off your phone. Go into fastboot mode by holding vol+ (volume up) while you press the power button. Don't let go until you see the green screen with very small white text ("AP fastboot: recovery ?"). If you get "ENTRY QPST DOWNLOAD", you pressed vol-. Don't panic, remove your battery and put it back in again. Your phone should be detected by the PC. Sometimes it will install ADB drivers automatically. You can check that by going to the cmd window and entering "fastboot devices". It should output "Flame2 fastboot".

6. You can do two things here:
    1. Flash CWM as your permanent recovery
        Enter "fastboot flash recovery CWM-Flame2.img". Once completed, reboot using "fastboot reboot" and enter CWM by holding vol+ (volume up) while you press the power button. This time, hold the buttons until you see the red screen with very small white text ("recovery"). Wait for CWM to come up.
        For the record, I did not do this because I wanted to retain my stock recovery.
    2. Sideload CWM as recovery for this session only
        Enter "fastboot boot CWM-Flame2.img". It will automatically load CWM. CWM recovery is valid for this session only, meaning if you power down and reboot, you can still go into stock recovery. This is the method I used.

7. On the CWM menu, navigate using the volume buttons and select using the power button. Choose "install zip from sdcard" then "choose zip from sdcard". Navigate to where your UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip is and select it. It will ask you to confirm. Then it will install SuperSU. Go back to the main menu and choose "reboot system now". If the phone does not respond, don't panic, remove your battery and put it back in again. SuperSU will now be in your app drawer. Congratulations, you are now rooted!

For updates/modifications that are via CWM zip installs, you can repeat the sideload procedure and install what you need. Stock recovery will still be there once you reboot normally. You don't have to worry about reflashing a stock recovery if you need to send back your phone for repairs. You can also access CWM to do a backup of your ROM before you modify it. I can't post a backup because I already modified my system ROM, and I just backed up some files that I removed/altered.

Here is a video on what I was able to do with my Flame 2.0 after rooting it. The video glitches are limitations of Screencast. Max FPS it can do is 40, while the refresh rate of Flame 2.0 is 58Hz (according to Quadrant).

How to Root Cherry Mobile Nova

So here’s the tutorial I’m talking about on how to root Cherry Mobile Nova. As I’ve said before, this android phone from Cherry Mobile really rock and it is on par as compared to other entry level phones such as the Samsung Galaxy Y. To maximize its full potential, I recommend you to root it in order to have a broader access to the OS and use special apps like link2SD. Read on how to use link2SD after you’ve finished rooting. Oh, I forgot that this is actually a rooting tutorial so I’ll stop praising it – unless someone asks for a review.

NOTE: This rooting method that I will be teaching you will only work if you’re still on Nova’s official Android 2.1 Eclair stock ROM. Therefore, if you already upgraded your device to Android 2.2 Froyo, sorry but this will not work. However, there is still another way for that but it is somewhat harder than this one. Ok, lets proceed on how to root Cherry Mobile Nova.

1. Make sure your battery level is above 80%. This is not required but I’m recommending it to lessen possible problems.

2. Download z4root. You can download it using your PC or phone it doesn’t matter just place it in your SD card.
3. Install the z4root app on your Nova.
4. Launch the app and click ROOT!
5. Wait for the whole process to finish.
6. Voila! You’ve successfully rooted your Cherry Mobile Nova!

Easy, right? Now if you’re not satisfied with your stock ROM, see my guide on how to install CyanogenMod on Cherry Mobile Nova. You’ll surely love your phone more once you discovered the power of it. I’ll update this post immediately once I finished doing it. Watch out!

As I was passing by in some forums, I saw a thread on how to root MyPhone TS1 Duo. Rooting is always a dilemma when users buy the android products of our local mobile manufacturers because there were very little to no support for it unless there was a popular international counter part. But this time, a well-known method worked. So, the cheap android phone from MyPhone worth Php3,999 can now be rooted. Cool, right?

For the benefit of others who’s not aware, here’s the MyPhone TS1 specs:

• Dual-SIM Touch Android Phone
• 3.2″ 320×480 pixels TFT HVGA Resistive Touch Screen
• Android 2.2 Froyo
• Wi-fi, Wi-Fi hotspot

9. Then wait for your smartphone to turn on.
8. ENJOY! You now have successfully rooted your phone!

How to Root Cherry Mobile Fusion Tablet

Upon purchasing the Cherry Mobile Fusion Bolt yesterday on the #FusionMania in North Edsa I manage to have mine after long hours of waiting, so after the lineup event LOL!, Upon checking the unit we saw that the SUPERSU apk has been removed because base from the first reviewers the Cherry Mobile Fusion Bolt is on the Engineering release or we can say prototype model when they got it, so for the consumer release they have removed it but luckily saying that it is still PRE-ROOTED why? because they leaved a trace LOL!, upon checking on the ANTUTU BENCHMARK. it says SU on /xbin is detected but the SUPERSU.apk is not detected.
So in short all we need to do is install the apk of the superSU or superuser, this 2 files are different, so we tried both of this and upon checking if you install the superSU it will fail to install but when you install the SuperUser it will work fine and viola you are now rooted. so here is the very simple process on how to do that.
1. goto the google playstore and login your account and type in the search box SUPERUSER and you will see the SUPERUSER by chainsDD so choose that and install an after that viola your already rooted

search for it and viola your done! you can check it via ROOT CHECKER if you have doubt

OPTIONAL:  if you don’t want to use the supersu app you can just overwrite it with the supersu, since you are already rooted you can just paste the apk on the /system folder enjoy!

sidenote: we are not sure if this still voids your warranty because they gave it as a pre-rooted, but be warned that it is always that ROOTING YOUR PHONE WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY. so use it wisely we will not be held liable in anyway if your phone will be bricked after doing this.

How to Root Myphone Mypad2

The DooMLoRD_v1_Xperia-2011-ICS-ROOT-emu-busybox-su should work for Tablets having A13 or SUN5i chipset (ARM Cortex™-A8 processor | ARMv7 Architecture) of which the MYPHONE MYPAD2 has (Check your MyPhone MyPad2 hardware using Antutu Benchmark app from Google Store).

Guide:

- Temporarily disable antivirus, and any firewall you have to avoid conflict
- Make sure that no other ADB server is running in background (e.g. Flashtool, PCC, SEUS)
- Enable Unknown Sources in your tablet
- Enable USB Debugging Mode in your tablet
- Unrar/Unzip the DooMLoRD_v1_Xperia-2011-ICS-ROOT-emu-busybox-su.rar that you have downloaded
- Connect your tablet to your computer
- Open the "runme.bat" from the extracted folder of DDooMLoRD_v1_Xperia-2011-ICS-ROOT-emu-busybox-su
- Read and follow onscreen instructions
- The tablet will reboot till the script says its finish
- Check the App Menu if the SuperUser is already installed; If yes, then your MyPhone MyPad2 is already rooted!

How To Root MyPhone A919i Duo

I’m sure there are tons of people who bought the new MyPhone A919i Duo. Now that you have your brand new Android phone, what should you do next? Some of you might definitely want to root your phone and install other useful apps and tools like Custom recovery.

How To Root MyPhone A919i Duo?

Before you proceed, let me just remind you that rooting your MyPhone A919i Duo is potentially dangerous and could permanently brick (damaged) your phone. Specially if you don’t know what you are doing. I won’t be responsible for any damages that will happen to your phone, and it is purely up to you if you want to try this or not.
I haven’t tried this since I do not have an A919i Duo, but according to Symbianize forum member, C0re, its working for him. You will need to download additional files and drivers. He said you might be needing Micromax A116 drivers, for phones that are using the same MTK6589 chipset. Below are the instructions on how to root your MyPhone A919i Duo:
1. Enable USB Debugging on the phone.
2. Download and unrar the file. Extract anywhere. Refer to the original thread here.
You might want to uninstall any currently installed A919i and ADB drivers before installing PDAnet, but this is optional only.
3. Install PDAnet, connecting the phone when prompted. (this is to install necessary drivers)
4. In the “motochopper” folder, execute “run.bat” (run as admin if needed).
5. The phone will automatically reboot. Done.
*You can uninstall PDAnet if you don’t need it.
*This will uninstall a very outdated version of SuperSU. Update SuperSU thru Play Store.
There you go, hope this would work on your MyPhone A919i Duo as well.

What is Rooting and its benefits? —its like jailbreaking but its your Android phone, unlocking the capabilities of your Android device with the apps and tweaks that requires root access to the Android system. Before you connect your A818 device on your PC, be sure to enable USB Debugging.

Then connect your device on your PC. Run the SuperOneClick app then click on the ROOT button that you can see.

What is Rooting and its benefits? —its like jailbreaking but its your Android phone, unlocking the capabilities of your Android device with the apps and tweaks that requires root access to the Android system. Its not necessary but if time came and you realized that you need to root your phone, then it must be it.
What is CWM recovery? – cwm is short for clock work mod recovery. All Android phones have recovery mode already but clock work mode is better and you can do more with CWM, like installing patches, updates, and tweaks on your device.

Rooting myPhone A818

First, you must download these files:

SP Flash Tool — extract once downloaded. This is the app used for flashing an Android phone.

Steps

Once the drivers are properly installed and the SP Flash Tool is already extracted and accessible, turn off your myPhone A818 and remove its battery.

Run SP Flash Tool.

Click the Scatter-loading button and navigate to the downloaded MT6573_Android_scatter.txt file.

Be sure that the RECOVERY is the only one selected, click on it and browse on the downloaded recoveryNonTouch.img file.

Click the Download button and just ignore the warnings.

Attach the battery again and connect the phone, be sure not to turn it on yet.

Wait for the process to complete. You will see a Green Circle with a label saying download okay. Normally, this process doesnt takes too much time and not more than 5 minutes as you were just writing a small-size recovery.img file.

How to enter into CWM recovery

Be sure that your phone is turned off.

Press Volume up + Volume down and power button until a set of choices appears then just press the up button to enter recovery.

With the CWM recovery, you can easily make a full back-up of your phone. This is as well called as Nandroid back-up. Just be sure you have enough storage on your SD card. Just select Select backup and restore, then choose back up and wait for it to finish.

How to root myPhone A818

Copy the RootA818.zip file on your SD card.
Enter CWM recovery.
Select install zip from sdcard, choose zip from sdcard, then locate RootA818.zip.
Select Reboot system now.
To know verify if the rooting process is a success, look for the SuperUser app in your drawer, or just check root access with the Root Checker app from the PlayStore.

How to Root myPhone A878 with working CWM

Credits to SuperGuko of symb.ph for the tutorial on rooting the myPhone A878. This one is somehow similar to the new method on how to root the myPhone A818. Please check out that as well, as I wont go much deep into specifics with this one, in case you are a bit lost. But I swear, this is a no sweat procedure.

Disclaimer: Root at your own risk. This method includes flashing. Whatever happens to your device is your full responsibility.

To start, you need to download these files:

• MT6577 USB VCOM drivers - you need to install this drivers on your PC so that your device will be read prior to flashing.
• SP Flash Tool - this is the Windows program that is used for flashing.
• CWM based Recovery - the recovery.img file we are about to flash on the device.
• ScatterFile base on MyPhone A878 lijinlong V1.08 - scatter.txt file needed by the Flash Tool.

Flashing CWM Process

The SP Flash Tool is easy to use, you can use this image below as a guide on how to work on it.

How to Flash CWM Recovery on MyPhone A878

1. Install the drivers. (MT6577 USB VCOM)
2. Remove the battery of your myPhone A878.
3. Run the SP Flash Tool.
4. Load the scatter.txt file by clicking the “Scatter-loading” button. (marked as step 1 on the above image)
5. Load the recovery image by clicking on the word RECOVERY. (marked as step 2) Be sure that its only “RECOVERY” that is marked with check and shows the proper file address.
6. Click the Download button, marked at step 3. Ignore all warnings.
7. Then connect your phone via USB cable. Wait for the green circle saying OK to appear. This writing process wont take a long time.

After that, you can now unplug your device.

To go into recovery, turn off your phone. Press and hold Volume up + power button together until options appear, then press the up button to enter recovery.

How to Root MyPhone A878

1. Download this file Root_Superuser_3.1.3_Busybox_1.20.2-Update1-signed. It is an update file that will be installed via CWM recovery. Just copy it on the root directory of your SD card.
2. Then Enter CWM recovery. Select install zip from sdcard >> choose zip from sdcard >> locate the downloaded and copied file.
3. After the update installation completed, select Reboot system now.

Rooting Cherry Mobile W500 Titan

1. First, you need to download this. {LINK} It is SuperOneClick, but we will not use that for the main rooting as you just have to install that just to install the necessary drivers for your PC.

3. Extract the files inside.
4. After that, connect your Cherry Mobile Titan phone and then run the *.bat file from the above zip archive.

Just to be sure that you had successfully rooted your device you can try downloading the Root Checker app from the Play Store. In case you are having problems with root access even you already successfully done the above procedures, you can try these:

• update SuperUser/SuperSU <– this is Super User for ICS. Tested with my ZOPO ZP100 phone after I had done a similar rooting procedure using a *.bat file as well. I guess this has something to do with the binaries that needed to be updated.
• install BusyBox.

How to Root Cherry Mobile Flare

Rooting your Cherry Mobile Flare voids your warranty, as CM keeps on saying on their fanpage. Funny it may seems, they want us to insist from rooting their device, when they do not provide real dev support for these Android phones.
Okay, here’s the rooting tutorial for the Cherry Mobile Flare.
This thing is based from the posted tutorials on how to root Karbonn A9+ which is exactly the same Cherry Mobile Flare we have here on the Philippines.
As I had said, root at your own risk.
I do not have a CM Flare right now to test, but I assure you that these will work. We have here to methods that you can use, one is via Root by Bin4ry with Restore, and the other one is via UnlockRoot.

Rooting Cherry Mobile Flare via Root by Bin4ry

This is the same thing as how we rooted the Cherry Mobile Titan.

1. First thing first, be sure to turn USB debugging “ON/checked”. This can be done by going to Settings -> Development.
2. Download this file, Root by Bin4ry Tool. (Root many Android) | Extract it then.
3. Install the drivers on your PC. You can do that by installing Moborobo; download it {LINK} and install. Run the app and connect your Flare device, follow the prompt so it installs the drivers. Once properly connected with Moborobo app, you can now close that program.
4. Proceed on the extracted file of step 2. Run the RunMe.bat file.
5. A cmd window will appear. When prompted for an option, just input “1″ for Normal mode.
6. Check your device and once asked for a restore, just proceed on it. Restore and ignore the encryption password it mentions.Your device will reboot, and viola!
7. Rooted Cherry Mobile Flare, just check first for the SuperSU icon.

Cherry Mobile Titan 5-Point Multi-Touch Update: Here’s How To Do It

Good news for all Cherry Mobile Titan owners and soon-to-be’s, the 5-point multi-touch update is no longer a dream for everyone. We heard that Cherry Mobile is soon to release an update for the Titan to fix this, but there are already a few who managed to be the first geeks to try it with their devices.
It seems that the reason on the delay of restocks of Cherry Mobile Titan is this issue. Heard some feedbacks from those who just bought a new one, the 5-point multi-touch is already supported. They got v9.0 Cherry Mobile Titan, while the first batch of the Cherry Mobile W500 prior to its release was at v5.0 only.

So if its the one reason for you to hold back from getting a Titan, now’s the time to take that away and start scouring for a store that sells this hot-sell phablet.
Well for those who already had the Titan for quite some time already, I bet all of you had waited for so long, here’s what you can do; there are actually three ways to do it.

1. use the ROM from a new Cherry Mobile Titan v9.0
2. use a Spice Mi-500 ROM with the fix
3. or just wait for the official update

If you think that the following stuff is a bit complicated for you, then just wait for the official update that will come from Cherry Mobile.
Well for the geeks, here’s what to do. First, you need to have a working CWM. I had written about it before, you can check that out. Link –> Working CWM for Titan. Also, you must have already rooted your Titan, in case you havent; check –> How to Root Titan.
The default recovery mode is no use here that’s why we really need to use CWM, then for the CWM to work flawlessly, you need to be rooted. These two are pre-requisites so be sure to accomplish those first.
The rest of the process is just by flashing a new ROM. You do that with CWM and you are done. But let me just share you some tips before you proceed.

• Go back-up your current ROM via CWM so in case you messed up, you still have the chance to revert back.
• Back-up your phone contacts, and messages if you might want.
• Also your apps, games, and other installed stuff; do yourself a favor and make use of the Titanium Back-up app.

Before you start restoring a back-up, just be sure to do these so as to avoid conflicts, been doing this on my other devices every time I flash a new ROM on it:

• Factory Reset 3x
• Cache Wipe 3x
• Dalvik Cache Wipe 3x

All is done via CWM. Then you may now proceed on the restore process..
Download one of these:

• Spice Mi-500 5-point multi-touch update – link thanks to sir Randolph of PinoyScreenCast.net. Just put the archive on your CWM folder on your SD card. Go to CWM recovery and then do a restore with this back-up.
• Titan v9.0 ROM backup – link thanks to sir Michael Paul Lachica. The same thing as mentioned above, you restore this back-up via CWM as well. This is the official Titan v9.0 ROM which came from the new batch of W500 units. PS: the v9.0 Titan ROM has a different keyboard as well.

How to Root any Chinese Android running Android 4.0 ICS/4.1 JB

Here’s an easy to follow tutorial on how to root any Chinese Android device you got there. It uses the rooting script Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry, which you can find at XDA. This is confirmed working for any MediaTek MT6577 devices running Android 4.0 or up, even devices with the dual core Qualcomm S4 procie can be rooted by this as long as it is on Android 4.x.
I first tested it on rooting a Cherry Mobile Titan, and it works. On this tutorial, I had used the method on my HDC Galaxy Note 2.
First, you need to properly install the ADB drivers. To do that, you must download and install first an app called Moborobo. Link here.
After installing the app, on your phone, enable USB Debugging by going to Settings > Development.
Connect your device and open the Moborobo app. Moborobo will attempt to install the necessary drivers. Just allow it to do the changes on your computer and if it succeed, you’ll see something like this:

You can now exit Moborbo. Be sure to close it completely and not just minimize it on the system tray.
Download this file. Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v18_2.7z
It is the rooting script. Extract it anywhere. You’ll something like this:

Execute the RunMe.bat file if you are on Windows. A command prompt will open.

Just enter 1 as your option. It will now do its task. You’ll now see something like this on your device. Click restore and wait for the process to finish.

While on the command prompt window, you’ll see this:

Your device will restart, and if you see the SUPER SU icon on your apps drawer it means that you had successfully rooted the phone.

It is really easy on these Android 4.x devices now. I just posted this so I can just use this as reference for the queries on how to root such Chinese-made Android smartphones. While on lower version of Android, such as 2.3.6 Gingerbread, its a bit tricky as it needs some hacking with the boot.img if the SuperOneClick or UnlockRoot doesnt works. We’ll cover that up on the next update.
As they say, rooting voids the warranty but it depends on where did you buy your Android phone. Root only when you think you really have to and already know why you need to do that. On the other note, this process isnt risky and there is nothing to fear in case you messed up with the steps. Still, do this at your own risk.
